"It's ALLLL about the end user!"
— Me, every day at work

From meeting with end users or working with Business Analysts and Product Owners to gathering requirements to developing user personas to designing the architectural flow to market and user research to analyzing metrics ... I Love (capital L) all things User Experience/Product Design!

About Kathryn

I create digital experiences that are aesthetically pleasing and interactive, but never at the expense of being easy to use and purposeful.

I've been involved in all aspects of web, application, and product design for decades now (including mobile apps), even before the term "User Experience" or "Product Designer" was coined. Because I can do web development as well it often comes in handy. For example, when I'm designing wireframes/mockups (UX) if there are budget constraints, I know not to make mock-ups with the extra bells and whistles (or to make the bells and whistles possible though CSS) because it would take developers that much longer ($$$) to code it out.

In my career I have worked with small business owners to VPs of banks to CEOs of large companies, to managing and delegating to Jr. Designers, and every type of client in between. I've also worked in a wide variety of environments - from Fortune 500 corporations to small ad agencies/start ups - where the expectation was to wear different hats - and (again) everything in between. I pride myself on being able to communicate with a diverse group of people, while understanding that their needs, expectations, and technical backgrounds are going to be different, all while being flexible. I can work independently while also collaborating with members of a team.

Let's get a quick brag out the way, my proudest professional accomplishment to date:
I was credited to helping save the Bojangles account when I worked for Xenial. The person who had been responsible for testing went on vacation for a month, so they asked me to step in and help. Right away I noticed how the user flow was clumsy and tested in such a way to break the app instead of trying to pass user test cases. I came up creating with user personas, a concept that hadn't been practiced before. I printed out screens and had our team physically walk through the ordering flow to find the gaps of where we needed to redesign the screens, another concept that hadn't been implemented before. Unknown to me, before I came on the project Bojangles was thinking of pulling out on us designing and developing their app. I received feedback from the Project Manager that because of my work, they felt more confident in staying with us.

Companies/Clients/Projects

Companies (worked or contracted for) :
Bank of America Charles Schwab Wachovia Portfolio Pathway Federal Reserve Belk Duke Energy Xenial/Global Payments RunBuggy Corteva Europa Sports Products APICS ACN Red Ventures AlterImaging
Projects/Clients (through an above company) : Verizon | Flash Mobile | Krispy Kreme | Bojangles | Whataburger | Jack in the Box | DiBella's | Islands | Safeco Insurance | Isle Blue | Glenn Diving | No Child Left Behind

Most of the enterprise level projects I have worked on were proprietary and/or had security precautions in place so I am unable to share those designs on a public domain. However, I do have working Figma files for Corteva and RunBuggy and images of mockups and research from financial institutions. I can share those Figma files upon request; these Figma files show everything from the napkin drawings to Jam sessions with stakeholders to wireframes to actual designs and mockups. To request these Figma files, email me at whitfieldkathryn@gmail.com or click on the below links to request access.

Images of mockups and research from financial institutions
These are NOT working files, these are just images and descriptions of some applications I have worked on. Due to security precautions, I am unable to share the actual working files. Also, these were initially done in Sketch which impacted my ability to have access to those files.
Working Figma file for RunBuggy - User Account Management
User Account Management was for clients to manage their information, including billing, drivers, trucks, users, etc. that had different views for shippers and haulers.
Working Figma file for RunBuggy - Third Party Portal
The Third Party Portal was how drivers and shippers communicated with each other, including reporting damages.
Working Figma file for Corteva - Analysis Prototype
The analyze function was for farmers and sales reps to be analyze the data of their crop performance in order to make the best choice for their next crop the following year.
Working Figma file for Corteva - Data Management
This file shows the research and mockups of the Data Management function. It also shows how it went from concept designs on scratch paper to user testing to designs. Data Management was for farmers and sales reps to manage their data.

Another quick proud brag moment:
My most recent contract was working on an application, Granular Insights, where we redirected the focus from farmers and sales reps to solely sales reps and re-tooled how they entered, edited, managed, and analyzed data. A directive was that the company wanted to increase the accuracy of data and initially the focus was on how to correct data in bulk. One of my strengths is to dig deeper to the root of the problem and by doing so, I was able to see that the solution wasn't JUST allowing the user to bulk edit data, but also to mitigate bad data in the first place so I designed the flow to address the root problem as well. (Corteva)

I have also worked on applications for:
